TIMSS

TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) provides reliable and timely data for achievement in mathematics and science of 4th- and 8th-grade students from primary schools , as well as of 4th-year  students from secondary (math-oriented) schools. Results from the questionnaires for students, teachers and directors show clearly how the environment, the teaching praxis, the aims outlined in the subject curricula and the educational system alone effect the students’ achievements.The achievement measurement of this study has two aspects: content and cognitive.
IEA is the chief organizer of TIMSS, and the activities are conducted  by Boston International Study Center.  Also, participants in administering TIMSS are Statistics Canada from Ottawa and the Educational Testing Service from Princeton, New Jersey.
The Republic of Macedonia has participated with eighth grade students in three cycles of measurement of students’ achievement:

  • TIMSS-R 1999;
  • TIMSS 2003;
  • TIMSS 2011;
